Ashford Speech and Advocacy is a mobile practice in North County owned by Colleen Stern Ashford. Colleen specializes in working with Autistic clients with a Neurodiversity affirming and sensory informed approach and is trained in the Hanen "More than Words" program. She provides in-home AAC evaluations and consultations as well as therapy for receptive-expressive language disorders, phonological disorders and Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Aquatic-based Speech-Language Therapy is available on a seasonal basis. She believes in a person-centered approach and in educating families on evidence-based practices and disability rights. The Special Education Advocacy Services she provides are meant to educate and empower parents and to foster collaboration with school districts whenever possible. Virtual IEP Consultations available. The Autism Discovery Institute (ADI) at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego provides comprehensive services for children with autism spectrum disorders, including diagnostic evaluations, parent coaching & education, social skills groups, and care coordination. ADI partners with multidisciplinary clinical teams and research institutions to provide evidence-based, comprehensive care that will improve the lives of children with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions. Camp I CAN was created and developed by the Autism Society San Diego in partnership with the YMCA to provide kids and teens with ASD, ages 6-17, a fun, safe and nurturing camp experience. All campers receive a specially trained one on one aid to provide support and ensure they have a successful experience. Camp is held in two locations: Toby Wells YMCA in San Diego and Magdalena Family Ecke Family YMCA in Encinitas. Campers may only attend 1 week of camp. In STEPPS is an agency that provides Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Intervention (Naturalistic ABA) to children and families across Southern California. We provides Pivotal Response Teaching (PRT), the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM), Project ImPACT, (PI) and Naturalistic Environment Teaching (NET). Our treatment focus and ethos is high quality, individualized plans of care for all of our patients. Through our use of naturalistic teaching strategies, our focus is to support our patients and families in leading fulfilling, independent, and joyous lives. We provide functional behavior assessments (FBAs), direct intervention one to one, school shadowing, play date facilitation, supervision, parent and caregiver consultation and training, and social skills groups.
